A Short Dog in a Tall Winter

It sucks when you’ve got stubby little legs and there’s five inches of fresh snow on the ground!  Doesn’t make it very easy to got potty.

I don’t think Strider was too happy with me.  I shoveled the sidewalk, but not the yard.  How dare I?

IMG_2954He managed, but I got the stink-eye.

Mother Road Marathon!

Oh, I hurt…I really, really hurt.  But probably not as much as the runners in the Mother Road Marathon today.  I’ve decided that you’ve gotta be a certain kind of awesome to run a half marathon, let alone a full marathon.

This morning was the 4th running of the Mother Road Marathon on Route 66.  It’s the only marathon to run through three states:  Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri.  It passes through 6 cities, starting in Commerce, OK, and finishing in Joplin, MO.  KOAM was out today, running a hydration station at mile 19.  Halfway between Riverton, KS and Galena, KS.

Right at the top of Heart Attack Hill.  I mean it.  That’s what we call it.   It’s one of those hills that when a the runners come up to it, they go “Holy shit, I’ve got to run up that??”  And when they get to the top of it, there we are with music, water, and Gatorade.  One lady did a cart wheel when she got to the top today.  I’m surprised she had the energy.

Thankfully, no one has ever had a heart attack running up Heart Attack Hill…but there’s another reason we gave it that name…

IMG_2827 IMG_2828Yes.  you are seeing that right.  That’s our tent, set up next to a cemetery.

IMG_2815We work the graveyard shift!

I love old cemeteries.  I can imagine so many stories accompanying those beaten up headstones.

Well, congrats to all the insanely awesome people who ran in the marathon today!!  Maybe one of these years I’ll be running it with you…

Ow.  I hurt just thinking about it.

Sunrise and the Lazy Dog

I love this time of year.  I love the fall, I love the rain…and I love when the sunrise starts just after my show is over at 7am.  It means I get shots like this when I look out my office window.

Silo Sunrise wide

Silo Sunrise close

Then, when I get home to upload the pictures to the computer, I get this, from the dog who thinks I should be paying attention to him 100% of the time.

Pay attention to me!Mom, why aren’t you paying attention to me yet?

Yawn!

Oh, and I brought my pictures home from the LBD Photo Contest…the ones from my last post.  They are now proudly displayed on the wall!

The five enteriesAnd the winner!

My First Photo Contest

Um…well…it’s been a while since I’ve posted.  No excuse really, just haven’t gotten off my butt to type an entry.

One of my best friends came down to visit over the past weekend.  To most, that’s no big deal, except that Crystal and I have been planning trips to see each other for years, and something has happened EVERY TIME to keep us from getting together.  It’s like the Universe didn’t want to allow us in the same place at the same time for some insane reason.  Well…screw you, Universe!  We beat you this time!  The proof:

Crystal and Strider

On another topic, Little Balkan’s Days was going on in Pittsburg the same weekend Crystal visited.  One of the events happening was the Photo Contest.  Now, Mom was after me for YEARS to enter some of my photos in contests (for that matter, so was Aunt Judy), and I never really got around to it.  Partly because I was a bit lazy about it, and partly because I didn’t want to pay any entry fees.  Well, the LBD Photo Contest was free to enter, so I thought what the hell?  Why not?

So…here are the five photos I entered:

Tiger Buddha Taking Offerings of Dasani KOAM's Shorter Tower Switcher

And that photo that took First Place in the Animal category…

The Grumpy GorillaI am so thrilled!  My first contest, and one of my pictures won!!!  I think Mom would be so proud!!  I took this one when we went to the Sedgwick County Zoo a few years back for Mother’s Day.  Dad and I took Mom, and Chris and the kids took Steph and Carol.  It was such a fun day, and mom really had a blast.  I’m so glad one of the pictures I took with Mom won.

On The Way Home

So, a few more photos from last weekend’s insanity.  As I was driving home last Sunday, I was stopped by some construction at one of the bridges.  Since Hwy 400 is a 2 lane road, construction on a bridge means one lane traffic!  Which means drivers get to sit and wait until the traffic from the opposite direction passes.

While I was waiting, I took these:

Go bye bye?

Strider loves his car rides.  There was severe weather in the area over the weekend, so I had to go and drive right into it, and of course, the Corgi got to come along.

Car Ride!

Got some lovely pictures.  I love thunderstorms.

Clouds

Sun and Clouds

Dark Clouds

And my favorite.  I love the contrast in colors during storms.  Especially when back-lit by the sun.

Field During the Storm

We’re going into my favorite time of the year.  Spring.  aka Severe Weather Season.  People think I’m nuts…going out after these storms, but, I know how to chase.  I work at a TV station, and I’m pretty sure my meteorologist friends/co-workers would smack me upside the head if I didn’t do it safely.

So expect pictures.  Lots and lots of pictures of storms.

*girn*

Thank you Kansas…

Wow!  Two posts in as many days!  There’s a reason though…

I’ve reached 60 followers!!  Yay!  I know that’s not a whole ton, compared to some of the blogs that I follow, but for someone who is still fairly new at blogging…THANK YOU SIXTY AWESOME PEOPLE!

So, I will give you pictures…of a snow storm…on March 24th.

Thank you, Kansas…

Strider enjoyed playing in the snow this morning…
